Samsung Galaxy S5 costs $256 to make, uses mostly “recycled components”

According to a teardown and component analysis by IHS (via Recode), Samsung’s flagship device costs roughly $256 to make. That price includes the bill of materials, as well as the estimated assembly cost.

In an interview with Re/code, the leader of this teardown Andrew Rassweiler noted that Samsung’s smartphones have been going up in cost. However, Rassweiler also stated that, “Inside we see mostly a lot of recycled components that we’ve seen before. There’s really nothing special inside where Samsung is pushing the envelope,” although he did give credit to Samsung for the water-resistant design.

LG G Pro 2

LG has now officially launched the LG G Pro 2, although it's initially a Korean handset only, with no news on whether we'll see it in other territories.

The LG G Pro 2 has a 5.9-inch 1080 x 1920 resolution display, 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset, 3GB of RAM, and LTE connectivity. The G Pro 2 has a 13-megapixel camera with optical image stabilisation on the rear, capable of 4K video capture.

It looks like a strong competitor for the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and should be a great phablet.

Self-Propelled Suitcase



Travel in style and ease with a suitcase that has a mind of its own. Anytime you come to an incline like a hill or a ramp, this self-propelled suitcase from Hammacher Schlemmer will power itself up the slope up to a maximum speed of 3 miles per hour. Don't worry about the luggage taking off without you, though: The suitcase powers up only when it is in motion, carrying a minimum of 15 pounds (the maximum is 70.5 pounds), and the handle comes out of the suitcase at an angle of 15 to 35 degrees. This little battery-powered number doesn't come cheap: It's $1300.
